Stripe does not offer direct payment acceptance to companies established in Türkiye. Application requirements through a US LLC, EIN and bank prerequisites, 2026 fees, dispute costs and Form 5472 obligations, all verified against official sources.
For an entrepreneur living in Türkiye, the Stripe question actually splits into two: does the platform support Türkiye, and if it does not, which structure genuinely works? The answer to the first is clear; the second requires far more preparation than simply registering a company.
As of 18 August 2026, Stripe does not offer direct payment acceptance to businesses established in Türkiye. A founder resident in Türkiye may apply through a real, operating company incorporated in a country the platform supports. The most commonly chosen structure is a US LLC; however, there is no scenario in which a certificate of formation alone opens an account or keeps it open. Approval depends on the consistency between the company registration, the EIN, a bank account suitable for payouts, verification of the individuals involved, a clearly explained business model, and a live website that sets out customer rights.

Does Stripe Open Accounts in Türkiye? Short Answer

For those looking for the short answer: a Stripe Payments account cannot be opened directly in the name of a Türkiye-based individual or company. A founder resident in Türkiye may apply through a genuine legal entity incorporated in a supported country, provided Stripe's verification conditions are met. A US LLC is one of those options; it is not a guarantee of approval.
Is Stripe Available in Türkiye?
Stripe's official global availability page lists the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Singapore and most of Europe, but Türkiye is not among them. India and Indonesia appear under "preview", and some African countries under an extended network status. Türkiye falls into none of these categories.
For that reason, starting a standard Stripe Payments account through a sole proprietorship or a capital company registered in Türkiye is not a supported route today.
The distinction here is between citizenship and the legal country of the company. Being a Turkish citizen is not in itself an obstacle. What is expected is that the account country, the company's country of registration, its tax number, its payout account and its business details all describe the same structure. Concealing that you live in Türkiye, declaring a US address you do not actually use, or misrepresenting the nature of your business breaches Stripe's rules and creates risks that extend to balance reviews and suspended transfers.
Card acceptance being closed does not mean Türkiye sits entirely outside the Stripe ecosystem. Stripe is collecting interest registrations for stablecoin-backed Treasury accounts accessible from the US and more than 100 countries; that product, however, is aimed at money management and does not cover payment acceptance.
Is Opening a Stripe Account with a US LLC Legal?
A Turkish entrepreneur forming a genuine LLC in the United States and applying to Stripe on behalf of that company is, generally speaking, a lawful commercial structure. Being lawful and being accepted by the platform are not the same thing. Under financial regulation and card network rules, Stripe assesses every account individually; the line of business, customer profile, delivery model, refund rate and the documents submitted all directly affect the decision.
For incorporation options, choice of state and bank account planning, see the current process details on the company formation in the USA page.
What You Need to Open a Stripe Account from Türkiye
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| A company formed in the US | Articles of Organization or equivalent registration document; the state filing must be active |
| EIN | Federal tax identification number issued by the IRS; the confirmation letter may be requested, not the application form |
| Corporate governance documents | Operating Agreement showing ownership and authority; the bank or Stripe may ask for additional documents |
| Verification of individuals | Account representative and beneficial owner details; a passport may be required where the country of residence differs from the account country |
| Business and contact address | An address consistent with the company registration, explainable and documentable if required |
| A compatible payout account | A bank or financial account accepted for US accounts, with the account holder name matching the company name |
| A live website | Product description, clear price and currency, contact channels, refund/cancellation/delivery and privacy pages |
| A supported line of business | A product or service compatible with Stripe's prohibited and restricted business list |
Step by Step: Opening a Stripe Account with a US LLC
- Compare your business model against Stripe's rules. Before forming the company, check whether the product or service falls into a prohibited category or one subject to additional review. Financial services, crypto, telehealth, certain travel models, high-value goods and collecting funds on behalf of third parties all attract closer scrutiny.
- Choose the right entity type and state. For solo e-commerce, software and consulting businesses, an LLC is the common choice. For ventures planning to raise investment with share classes, a Delaware C Corporation may fit better. The decision should not be made on formation fees alone; the annual filing burden, the actual place of business and the investment objective all belong in the same assessment.
- Complete the LLC filing and the registered agent. Once the company name is approved, the formation document is filed with the state and a registered agent is appointed. The registered agent address is for legal service of process; it does not always substitute for the business address verification a bank or payment institution asks for.
- Obtain an EIN from the IRS. Applying for an EIN is free at the IRS. The online tool is not always available to applicants outside the US; the fax or mail channel via Form SS-4 may be required. The company name must be spelled identically across the state filing and the EIN letter.
- Open a payout account in the company's name. The bank or financial institution runs its own KYC review; LLC registration and an EIN do not guarantee bank approval. The account holder name, routing details and currency must match the Stripe settings.
- Prepare the website for payment acceptance. Instead of a page under construction or a site consisting only of a contact form, you need a finished structure that clearly shows what the customer is buying, when they will receive it, and under what conditions they can request a refund.
- Activate the account with accurate information. The United States is selected as the company country; the legal name, EIN, address, representative, owners and bank details are entered exactly as they appear on official documents. The founder resident in Türkiye must provide their genuine residential address and the requested identity document.
- Set up security and dispute processes before going live. Enable two-factor authentication, choose a statement descriptor consistent with the brand name, manage team access through separate users, and store order and delivery evidence systematically.
Can You Open a Stripe Account Without an SSN or ITIN?
A single-sentence answer valid for every account would be misleading. The personal tax number Stripe asks for can vary with the account type, the company classification, the status of the representative and beneficial owners, and the verification flow. An EIN is the company's tax identity and does not automatically substitute for personal identity verification of the owner.
Stripe's acceptable verification documents guidance states that a passport is required for identity verification where the country of residence differs from the account country. On some US accounts, a request for an SSN or ITIN from related individuals can also arise. Filling such a field with a fabricated number, using someone else's details, or misrepresenting residence status is not an acceptable approach. If a request shown in the Dashboard cannot be met, ask Stripe support for a written explanation before taking any action.
Bank Account and Address Requirements for Stripe
The account that receives payouts must be in the company's name and its ownership must be verifiable by Stripe. It is critical that the legal name on the account matches both the LLC filing and the name on the Stripe profile. Although some fintech providers offer US account details, acceptance depends on the current policy of both that provider and Stripe, and can change over time.
On the address side, three concepts are frequently confused, and that confusion delays a significant share of applications:
- Registered agent address: the address filed with the state for legal service of process.
- Mailing address on the registry: the company's official correspondence address.
- Actual place of business: where the work is genuinely carried out.
Stripe may request additional documents to verify the identity and address of the business. Do not assume that an address which merely forwards mail will satisfy every verification requirement.
Website Checklist for Stripe Approval
Stripe's official website checklist expects every element that influences a purchase decision, from the product description to refund terms, to be visible. Areas to complete before applying:
- Original, detailed descriptions covering the scope of the product or service
- An explicit currency next to the price; symbols open to interpretation are not enough
- Direct support channels such as email and phone; not only a contact form
- For physical goods: delivery method, timeframe, cost and shipping regions
- Refund, exchange, cancellation and subscription termination terms
- Privacy policy, terms of use and any legal restrictions
- A visible explanation of promotion, discount and free trial conditions
- HTTPS, a secure payment flow and information on how card data is protected
- Consistency between the legal name, brand name, support email and statement descriptor
For technical integration and alternative payment infrastructure, the global virtual POS solutions page is also worth reviewing.
Stripe Fees in 2026
Stripe's published standard US pricing varies by payment method and card type. The rates below were verified on 18 August 2026 from the official US pricing page.
| Transaction | Official US price |
|---|---|
| Online payment with a US-issued card | 2.9% + USD 0.30 per successful charge |
| International card | Additional 1.5% on the standard fee |
| If currency conversion is required | Additional 1% on the relevant charge |
| Manually entered card | Additional 0.5% on the standard fee |
| ACH Direct Debit | 0.8%, capped at USD 5 per transaction |
| Stablecoin payment | 1.5% of the transaction amount |
| Instant Payouts | 1.5%, minimum USD 0.50 |
| Card present (Terminal) | 2.7% + USD 0.05 |
There is no setup fee, monthly fee or account closure fee. Prices can vary by account country, custom agreement and the product used.
Chargeback costs are missing from most calculations
The item most often overlooked in fee comparisons is disputes. Stripe charges USD 15 for every dispute received. If you respond manually, a further USD 15 dispute response fee applies; that second amount is refunded on disputes you win and is not refunded on those you lose. Accounts that leave evidence preparation to Stripe's AI-assisted Smart Disputes feature pay an additional 30% of the disputed amount for every dispute won.
The practical meaning is this: in a model with a high dispute rate, the real cost can rise well above the advertised 2.9%. Long delivery times, pre-order-heavy sales and structures that make subscription cancellation difficult push the dispute rate up quickly.
Effective deduction on USD 10,000 in revenue
The table below shows a typical scenario for a US LLC managed from Türkiye that sells predominantly abroad. Assumptions: 100 transactions of USD 100, all on international cards, all requiring currency conversion, with two lost disputes.
| Item | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Gross revenue | 100 x USD 100 | USD 10,000 |
| Percentage transaction fee | 2.9% x 10,000 | -USD 290 |
| Fixed transaction fee | 100 x USD 0.30 | -USD 30 |
| International card surcharge | 1.5% x 10,000 | -USD 150 |
| Currency conversion surcharge | 1% x 10,000 | -USD 100 |
| Dispute fees | 2 x USD 15 | -USD 30 |
| Refunded transaction value | 2 x USD 100 | -USD 200 |
| Remaining in the account | USD 9,200 | |
| Effective deduction | 8.0% |
Card network fees, bank transfer costs, accounting and tax expenses are not included in this table. In a scenario where every transaction is on a US card and in USD, the deduction falls markedly; the calculation should be redone against your own customer mix.
When Does Stripe Pay Out?
Once live payments begin, Stripe typically schedules the first payout for 7-14 days after the first successful charge. Industry risk and country can extend this. After the first payout, transfers follow the account's payout schedule; in most countries the default is a daily automatic payout, and weekly, monthly or manual schedules can be selected in the Dashboard.
Settlement time is a separate concept, expressed as "T+X". T is the moment the payment is authorised or captured; X is the number of business days before the balance becomes available for payout. When planning cash flow, the first-payout wait and the settlement time must be accounted for separately.
Completing verification documents, bank details and the business registration before the first sale increases the chance of staying at the short end of the waiting period.
US LLC Tax and Annual Compliance Obligations
Single-member LLC and federal classification
According to the IRS, a single-member LLC is classified as an entity disregarded as separate from its owner for federal income tax purposes unless an election is made otherwise. An LLC with more than one member is treated as a partnership by default. The company may elect to be taxed as a corporation.
Form 5472 and pro forma Form 1120
Where a US-formed LLC that is 100% foreign-owned and treated as disregarded has reportable related-party transactions, Form 5472 must be filed together with a pro forma Form 1120. Contributing formation capital, withdrawing money from the company, or paying company expenses from personal funds are transactions that can fall within this scope.
No tax being due does not mean the information return is unnecessary. This distinction is one of the most expensive mistakes made by Turkish entrepreneurs forming LLCs in the US.
C Corporation tax
If the LLC elects to be taxed as a corporation, or a C Corporation is formed directly, the calculation changes. The federal corporate income tax rate for 2026 is 21% of taxable income. State taxes, dividend distributions and obligations in Türkiye are assessed separately.
Is BOI reporting still mandatory?
This topic has changed several times over the past eighteen months and most of the content circulating online is out of date. The current position: the final rule published by FinCEN on 11 August 2026 and effective 14 August 2026 made the March 2025 interim rule permanent. Companies formed in the US under US law, and US persons, are exempt from beneficial ownership information reporting under the Corporate Transparency Act.
A newly formed standard US LLC therefore has no BOI reporting obligation. The rules differ for companies formed in a foreign country and registered to do business in the US, where a reporting obligation may continue. Because regulations change, check the FinCEN page again on the date of formation.
The Türkiye side: tax residence and controlled foreign corporations
For a company owner living in Türkiye, what matters is where the US company's income is managed from, the nature of that income, profit distribution, and the double taxation treaty between Türkiye and the United States. Leaving Stripe revenue sitting in a US account does not by itself remove the declaration responsibility in Türkiye.
The controlled foreign corporation income regime in Article 7 of the Turkish Corporate Tax Law should also not be overlooked. Where certain conditions are met together, the earnings of a foreign subsidiary can be taxed in Türkiye even if no dividend is actually distributed. The law looks at control ratio, the weight of passive income, the effective tax burden abroad and a revenue threshold together. Double taxation treaties in force do not limit Türkiye's right to tax its own residents under these provisions.
Because thresholds and application details can be updated, the structure should be set up together with an adviser experienced in US international tax and a certified accountant in Türkiye.
Does the State of Formation Affect Stripe Approval?
Short answer: no. There is no single state that is required or advantageous for Stripe access, and the state does not function as a decisive criterion in the application. An LLC formed in Wyoming and one formed in Delaware are treated identically by Stripe as long as they provide the same document consistency. Advice along the lines of "you must incorporate in this state for Stripe" is a marketing claim, not a platform rule.
The choice of state affects Stripe indirectly in two places. The first is cash flow: annual state obligations are a fixed cost item added on top of your processing fees and they raise your effective deduction rate. The second is continuity risk; if the state filing loses good standing, your registration document cannot satisfy a verification request and the account can be restricted. What matters is therefore not which state you choose, but whether you keep up with that state's obligations without interruption.
As a cost reference: Stripe's own incorporation product, Atlas, states a one-off fee of USD 500 for US company setup, including government filing fees and the first year of registered agent service. It is useful to compare the scope of incorporation offers against this benchmark.
A detailed comparison of Delaware, Wyoming, Nevada, Florida and Texas in terms of franchise tax, privacy, annual cost and investor perception is set out in which state should you choose. For structures planning an investment round, see company formation in Delaware.
Why Are Stripe Accounts Rejected or Restricted?
Initial activation is not a guarantee of permanent use. Accounts can be re-reviewed as transaction volume, dispute rate, delivery times and customer complaints change. The most common risk areas:
| Risk | Practical explanation |
|---|---|
| Document and profile mismatch | Different spelling or address across the LLC name, EIN letter, bank account and Stripe profile |
| Misrepresented location | An unused business address, hiding location via VPN, someone else's ID or tax number |
| Incomplete website | Product, price, currency, delivery, refund or direct contact details not visible |
| Undeclared activity | Selling products not stated in the application, or collecting funds on behalf of third parties |
| High payment risk | Sudden volume spikes, long delivery times, pre-order concentration, high refund or dispute rates |
| Restricted sector | Inability to provide documents in a field requiring an additional licence or prior approval |
| Account security | Shared passwords, missing two-factor authentication, unusual access patterns |
Alternatives to a US LLC
A US LLC is not the only option, and it is not the most suitable structure for every business model. Three alternatives belong on the table before you decide.
The merchant of record model. Under Stripe's Managed Payments product, Stripe becomes the seller of record; indirect tax compliance, collection, dispute management and customer support pass to the platform. The cost is an additional 3.5% per transaction on top of standard Payments fees. For teams selling digital products and software into many countries but unwilling to manage tax compliance alone, the cost difference can be worthwhile.
Another country Stripe supports. If the business model and customer base are Europe-weighted, company formation in the UK or establishing a company in Estonia may fit better than the US. For structures selling into the Gulf region, company formation in Dubai can be considered; the United Arab Emirates is also among the countries Stripe supports.
A different payment provider. In some sectors Stripe treats as restricted, other infrastructures can be more flexible. Checkout.com virtual POS and PayPal Business account can be set up as a second channel for businesses looking to reduce dependence on a single provider.
Compliance Routine After the Account Is Live
- Keep the state filing and registered agent service continuously active
- Track state annual tax dates and the federal filing calendar separately
- Update changes to name, address, owners, activity or website with both Stripe and the bank
- Archive invoices, contracts, delivery evidence, customer correspondence and refund records systematically
- Monitor the dispute rate and Radar alerts; review suspicious orders before shipping
- Re-check the prohibited and restricted business list before adding new products
- Reconcile Turkish and US accounting records against the same transaction data
Why Consistency Decides the Outcome
For an entrepreneur who wants to use Stripe from Türkiye, the safest approach goes beyond obtaining an LLC certificate: the company, bank, website, activity, tax and customer processes need to sit under one verifiable structure. Shortcuts that look practical in the short term, such as an unused address or borrowed identity, increase the risk of account closure and balance review.
A payment infrastructure plan built around your business model
World Company Setup plans the choice of US entity structure, formation, EIN, bank account preparation and payment infrastructure alignment together. When activity eligibility and document consistency are checked before the application, the operation proceeds far more predictably.
