Trademark Registration Cost in Dubai (2026 Official Fees)

In the UAE, trademarks are registered with the Ministry of Economy & Tourism (MoET), and a trademark filed in Dubai is protected across all seven emirates. Official fees are charged separately for each Nice class; the table below summarises the Ministry's current fee schedule:

ServiceOfficial Fee (AED)
Application examination fee (standard, per class)AED 750
Expedited examination (1 working day)AED 2,250
Publication feeAED 750
Registration fee (after the opposition period)AED 5,000
Total official cost (1 class, standard)AED 6,500
10-year renewal (publication + renewal fee)AED 750 + AED 5,750

For example, registering a mark in two classes costs around AED 13,000 in official fees. Members of the UAE National Programme for SMEs may qualify for a 50% reduction on official fees. These amounts exclude power of attorney, notarisation/apostille, translation and professional service fees; because World Company Setup manages the whole process end to end, we give you one clear, transparent quote.

Note: Fees reflect the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism schedule as of September 2026 and may change by ministerial decision. For a binding price tailored to your brand, request a quote from our team.

Trademark Registration and Patent Applications in Dubai: An Overview

As the Middle East's trade and entrepreneurship hub, Dubai offers a strong base for protecting your brand and inventions in international markets. In the UAE, trademarks are governed by Federal Decree-Law No. 36 of 2021 on Trademarks (in force since 2 January 2022), and patents by Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2021 on Industrial Property Rights. World Company Setup provides end-to-end trademark and patent support to businesses that are setting up a company in Dubai or already operating there.

Why Is Trademark Registration in Dubai Important?

Trademark registration is the most effective way to protect your business's ownership, reputation and commercial value. Because the UAE follows a "first-to-file" principle, registering your mark before you start trading prevents costly disputes. A trademark registered in Dubai is protected not only in Dubai but throughout the UAE.

  • Legal Protection: Your mark belongs exclusively to you, and you can enforce your rights against unauthorised use.
  • Competitive Advantage: A registered trademark helps you stand out from competitors.
  • Investor Appeal: A registered mark is a valuable asset that reassures investors and business partners.
  • Protection Against Counterfeiting: Registration gives you the legal basis to stop copying and unfair competition.

How to Register a Trademark in Dubai: Step-by-Step Process and Timelines

Although timing depends on the number of classes and any oppositions, the process generally follows these stages:

  1. Preliminary Search and Assessment (1-3 working days): We check whether your mark is already registered by another party and whether it is sufficiently distinctive.
  2. Preparing and Filing the Application (2-5 working days): The application is prepared with the mark specimen, Nice class selection and supporting documents, and filed through the Ministry of Economy & Tourism's online system.
  3. Official Examination (about 20 working days): The application is examined on formal and substantive grounds; with expedited examination, a decision is issued within 1 working day.
  4. Publication and Opposition Period (30 days): Accepted applications are published in the official Trademark Bulletin, and third parties may oppose within 30 days.
  5. Issuance of the Registration Certificate: If no opposition is filed (or it is resolved in your favour), the registration fee is paid and your certificate is issued.

An unopposed application typically takes 3-6 months in total; oppositions or appeals against a refusal can extend this timeline.

Nice Classification and Choosing the Right Classes

The UAE applies the international Nice Classification: classes 1-34 cover goods and classes 35-45 cover services. Protection only extends to the classes you file in, and each class is charged separately, so selecting the right classes for your business directly affects both cost and scope of protection.

Documents Required for Trademark Registration

  • Notarised and apostilled power of attorney (if filing through an agent)
  • Passport copy of the applicant, or trade licence/commercial registration for companies
  • High-resolution trademark specimen (logo or word mark in JPEG format)
  • List of the relevant goods/services classes under the Nice Classification
  • Arabic translation of documents where required

Madrid Protocol or Direct National Filing?

The UAE has been a member of the Madrid Protocol since 28 December 2021, so you can protect your mark in multiple member countries through a single international application via WIPO. If you only need protection in the UAE, a direct national filing is usually faster. We recommend choosing the route based on your target markets and budget; our team can provide a tailored assessment.

Important for foreign brands: Trademark protection is territorial. A mark registered in your home country is not automatically protected in the UAE; it must be registered separately through a national filing or the Madrid Protocol.

Why Is Patent Protection in Dubai Important?

A patent is a legal title confirming that an invention belongs to its owner and preventing others from making, using or selling it without permission. In the UAE, patent applications are filed with the Ministry of Economy & Tourism, and a granted patent provides 20 years of protection from the filing date; a utility certificate is also available for smaller technical innovations.

  • Protection of Inventions: A patent ensures that only you can exploit your invention.
  • Competitive Market Position: Patented products strengthen your leadership in the sector.
  • Licensing and Revenue: You can generate additional income by licensing or assigning your patent.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Trademark Registration and Patent Services in Dubai frequently asked questions.

An unopposed application usually takes 3-6 months. Official examination takes about 20 working days and the opposition period after publication is 30 days; the certificate is issued once the registration fee is paid. Expedited examination (AED 2,250) reduces the examination decision to 1 working day, but it does not shorten the 30-day opposition period.

Under the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism's official schedule, you pay AED 750 for examination, AED 750 for publication and AED 5,000 for registration, around AED 6,500 per class in total. Power of attorney, translation and professional fees are extra. For a precise quote tailored to your brand, request a quote from our team.

No. Trademark protection is territorial, so a registration in another country only applies there. Businesses that want to operate in or protect their brand in the UAE must register the mark separately in the UAE, either through a direct national filing or via the Madrid Protocol.

A trademark registered in the UAE is protected for 10 years from the filing date and can be renewed indefinitely for further 10-year periods. Renewal can be filed during the tenth year of protection or within 6 months after expiry; the official renewal fee is AED 5,750 plus a AED 750 publication fee (AED 6,500 if renewed after expiry).

If you only need protection in the UAE, a direct national application is usually faster. If you want to protect your mark in several countries, the Madrid Protocol, which the UAE joined in 2021, lets you seek protection in many member countries through a single application via WIPO.

Yes. Both free zone and mainland companies can apply for trademark registration in the UAE with their trade licence and the other required documents. The registered mark is valid throughout the UAE.

After your application is published in the official bulletin, third parties have 30 days to file an opposition. If an opposition is filed, the Ministry reviews both parties' arguments, which can add several months to the process. We recommend getting legal support during opposition proceedings.

A trademark protects a business's name, logo or slogan, while a patent certifies that an invention or technical innovation belongs to its owner and prevents others from producing it without permission. Trademark protection is renewable every 10 years, whereas patent protection lasts 20 years from the filing date.

You typically need a trademark specimen (JPEG), a list of the relevant Nice classes, a passport copy of the applicant or a trade licence for companies, and a notarised, apostilled power of attorney if you file through an agent. In some cases, an Arabic translation of the documents may also be required.

Yes. Foreign individuals and companies can apply for trademark registration in the UAE without being resident, provided they submit the required power of attorney and identity/company documents. World Company Setup supports overseas clients end to end throughout the process.
