Physical POS Solutions in Dubai

If you run a shop, restaurant, café, beauty salon or showroom in Dubai, accepting card payments isn't optional — it's essential: the vast majority of retail payments in the United Arab Emirates are made by credit card, debit card and contactless methods. A physical POS device is the terminal that lets your business accept these payments securely. However, getting a POS device in Dubai works differently than in Turkey. Instead of a tax plate, you need a valid UAE trade licence, a corporate bank account and a merchant agreement with a payment provider (acquirer). At World Company Setup, our office in Dubai Silicon Oasis manages this entire process on your behalf — from company formation to installing the device at your premises.

What Is a Physical POS Device in Dubai, and Why Is It Necessary?

A physical POS (Point of Sale) device is an electronic terminal that lets customers pay face-to-face with a credit card, debit card or mobile wallet. In Dubai, POS devices are not just a collection tool — they also handle sales reporting, end-of-day reconciliation, tip management, multi-currency conversion (DCC) and VAT-compliant receipt issuance.

A business in Dubai that doesn't accept card payments misses out on both local customers and the spending of the millions of tourists who visit the city every year. In addition, many shopping malls and free zone authorities expect tenant businesses to have an electronic payment infrastructure in place.

How to Get a POS Device in Dubai: Step-by-Step Process

A physical POS application in Dubai consists of four main steps:

  1. Trade licence: You need a mainland or free zone licence matching your business activity. This is a prerequisite for a POS application; POS devices are not issued without one.
  2. Corporate bank account: A company account is opened with a UAE bank to which POS collections will be transferred. The bank will request identity and residency documents from the company's partners.
  3. Merchant application: A merchant agreement is signed with a bank or an independent payment provider. The licence, tenancy contract/Ejari, partners' passport and Emirates ID copies, and bank account details are submitted.
  4. Device installation and activation: Once approved, the device is installed at your premises, staff are trained on its use, and the system is activated with a test transaction.

If the documents are complete, approval is usually finalised within a few business days to two weeks, depending on the provider.

POS Providers in Dubai: Banks and Payment Institutions

Types of Physical POS: Which One Suits Your Business?

Fixed (Desktop) POS

A classic terminal connected to the till. With chip, magnetic stripe and contactless card reading, it is ideal for supermarkets, shops and showrooms that take payment at a counter.

Mobile POS (mPOS)

Portable devices that work over SIM or Wi-Fi. Preferred for on-the-move scenarios such as table-side payment in restaurants, courier deliveries, valet services and event sales.

Android Smart POS

Touchscreen, app-capable next-generation devices. The fastest-growing segment in Dubai for businesses that want stock tracking, loyalty programmes and accounting integration, with QR payment and digital receipt support.

Difference from Turkey: Is a Fiscal Cash Register (Ă–KC) Required in Dubai?

The mandatory Fiscal Cash Register (Ă–KC) system used for retail businesses in Turkey has no equivalent in Dubai. A POS device in the UAE does not need to have fiscal memory; instead, businesses are required to issue a tax invoice/receipt compliant with Federal Tax Authority (FTA) rules for sales subject to 5% VAT. This difference is a significant simplification, both in cost and operations, for entrepreneurs coming from Turkey: a single Android POS can handle both collections and VAT-compliant receipts.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Physical POS Solutions in Dubai frequently asked questions.

Can I get a POS device in Dubai without setting up a company?

No. A valid UAE trade licence and a corporate bank account are mandatory for a physical POS allocation. If you don't have a company yet, we manage the company formation process together with your POS application in a single package.

What are the POS commission rates in Dubai?

Transaction commissions generally range between 1% and 3%, depending on the card type and provider. Rates are somewhat higher for foreign cards and credit cards than for debit cards.

Is it more advantageous to rent or buy a POS device?

For newly opened businesses that want to preserve cash flow, renting in the AED 300–800/month range is usually more economical; for long-established, high-turnover businesses, purchasing in the AED 2,000–5,000 range tends to be more cost-effective long-term.

How long does the application take to complete?

If the documents are complete, merchant approval and device installation are usually completed within a few business days to two weeks, depending on the provider.

Can a free zone company get a physical POS?

Yes. Free zone companies with a physical point of sale can apply for a POS; providers assess the location of the premises and the licensed business activity.

Is a fiscal cash register (Ă–KC) required in Dubai?

No. There is no UAE equivalent of Turkey's Ă–KC system; businesses are required to issue a VAT-compliant invoice or receipt in line with FTA rules.

Can I accept payments from Turkish and foreign cards?

Yes. Dubai POS terminals accept international Visa, Mastercard and Amex cards; with the DCC feature, customers can pay in their own currency.

When do collections reach my account?

Under standard practice, transaction amounts are transferred to your corporate account within 1–3 business days (T+1–T+3); some providers offer same-day transfer for a fee.
